I use a gear hammock most of the time, think it's a Trek Lite Chair (3x5), that holds an amazing quanity of gear.
Depends what I'm doing with all my gear that trip. Car camping I'll often not put it up, cause all the bins are handy storage and don't really need extra. Winter sled camping I almost always put it up high in my hot tarp setup to warm/dry any gear from my wood stove heat at the peak of the tarp. Makes a nice spot to hang quilts to dry/warm up high in the heat as well.
I'd assume most of the time extra hang spots for storage aren't a real problem in most tarps with ridgeline setups under the tarp. YMMV!!

I have one, from another vendor (kammock or sea to summit?) and it’s pretty cheaply made. I do like the utility it provides, so I am planning to buy a hammock chair - use if for hanging around camp, then set it up for use as a gear sling before bed. One piece of gear that can provide both functions, you know?
Have a diy one that hangs from the ridgline. It comes with me if ill be hanging at camp alot. If camp is just a place to sleep, it stays home.
Nice to use as a junk drawer.
I prefer a peak loft if I just had to choose one.
I use the DH Gear Sling. Does the job and weights less than some mesh peak shelves.
Lots of room. Practically any thing I'm not wearing goes in there, clothes-wise. The Smurfs make good stuff. Only a $5 upgrade from the mesh RL organizer when you purchase any hammock, last time I looked.
Signature suspended
I got a hammock chair from AHE to use as a gear hammock, and it worked great. I love ha ing my gear underneath me and off the ground. I can keep an extra blanket there if I get cold, or toss my blanket there of I get hot in the night. And if I'm going for a day hike or hanging around camp, I can toss stuff in the big hammock and take the hammock chair and use it as a chair or lounge in

I made a gear sling from a cheap Grand Trunk 9' hammock. I cut it in half, re-sewed the ends, and added whoopie slings to it. I can use it as a chair if I stop a while for lunch, then when I get to camp, it hangs under my hammock using 2 small carabiners attached to the ends of the hammock. It is dual purpose and lightweight, sub 3 oz with suspension. It can be used as a ground sheet or pack cover also, I like versatile pieces of equipment.
I bought my gear hammock (doubles as a pack cover) from Jacks. I clip it on my hammock line; still tweaking how it's set up in relation to my hammock.
But I do like having stuff in there instead of on the ground. In fact, last time I was out I didn't even bother putting out my tyvek below the hammock.
Does a lot toward making my setup look less like a trailer park, too...

The "Rolls Royce" of gear hammocks, IMO
With one of the HF Vendors' hammocks, a big tarp with doors, a superior ridge-line multi bag, and Mac's Gear Box, why pay rent?
