    Add Polyfill

Doing some mods to my GeerTop UQ. It's using maybe 1/4" polyfill batting that works great to 40 degrees. I've been eyeing the UQ in ways to improve upon it's thermal qualities by adding down or more polyfill. Being that I don't have a sewing machine to properly sew in chambers I think I'm going to go with adding more polyfill batting. From the outside the UQ has stitching that looks like that are separate chambers but upon further inspection that's not the case. So I should be able open one narrow end and pull in the extra batting and have to use needle and thread to sew the end shut again. Any thoughts on the polyfill?

I have an UQ that has snaps that allow me to snap in a blanket for additional insulation.

It works amazingly well. You could do something similar - just add snaps to your UQ and a camping blanket. Close to summer, I just used this simple system for both UQ and the blanket as the top quilt.

    I love how it works.

I created the DIY COSTCO blanket but doesn’t provide the thermal barrier I was hoping for. I used a spare 20 degree sleeping bag as added layer to my UQ and that worked all the way down to 25 degrees fahrenheit. Was hoping to increase loft on my UQ to limit need and added weight weight to my gear.

    Thanks!

It was my understanding the the loft of a baffle is what creates the temp rating adding more to the same size baffel makes it last longer

So I’ve gone ahead and added poly fill batting to one side of my under quilt. I can say it has increased the loft twofold if not three! Working on filling the second side and will be testing the under quilt tomorrow evening in about 25°F temperatures.

Documenting the process so I’ll share video and or pictures

So here's a video explaining and showing me adding some polyfill batting to my UQ. Will be testing this evening in about 25º F temps, but being that the loft has increased 3x-4x I think this will work beautifully!

Just coming into this one now. I have the same underquilt. How much better did it make it after modding it out some?

    Or did it?
