    Winter tarp vs door kit

    Now that I finished my DIY hex tarp I am trying to decide on my next project. Since it is winter here in Alaska, I am thinking it would be nice to have a winter tarp. I am trying to decide if I should build a winter tarp or make some add on doors for my hex tarp like the door kit from warbonnet. Any pro’s and con’s for the two different projects?

    I think it will be easier to cut it as one piece whole lot of seam seal to go the other way not that it can't be done abit it being way cheaper then making one from scratch I personally would rather have the 2 different options depending on the weather

    Hey if you make it get the laser cut kit - best $10 you'll ever spend. I chose the cheap route and cutting it out was a challenge - cat cuts were a ***** too. Here was my RSBTR 12' winter tarp kit build;

    If I were you, in Alaska, I would build a winter tarp using XL fabric. The extra side coverage is a huge plus. A hex tarp with door kit, I have a couple and do like them, well never work as well.

    I made a winter tarp from XL fabric a few years back and carry it all the time I like it so much. I often hook the doors together inside when not needed to turn it into a hex tarp of sorts. Sure it nice to close the doors and hunker down when the weather's snotty.

    GilligansWorld - That RSBTR Winter tarp looks absolutely huge. I sewed their pre-cut Hex-12 kit about a month ago. Your video makes the Winter-12 look so much longer, but based on the specs, they are supposed to have the same ridge line length. Weird. I'm saving up for a nice down 3/4 underquilt from HammockGear, but I'll probably buy a pre-cut Winter-12 kit and work on it later this winter. Thanks for sharing and nice video.
