I think I am going to get one with doors first. I can always tie them open if i don't need them and i don't care about weight at the moment.

I have a basic diamond tarp which I really like for summer when I know I am unlikely to encounter a storm and even then the temps are high enough that I could handle getting wet without serious consequences. In this case, I play the odds and am willing to pay the price if I am wrong and we get a severe high wind deluge.

I’ve got to say that I really enjoy having doors. There is no downside to them that I can find unless you are a gram counter. If I don’t need them, I just fold them back. If I need them, however, there really is no substitute. I don’t want to be selecting a new site or trees AFTER I have discovered that the wind has shifted on me.

Not sure what you have looked at, but the Superfly, Journey, and SLD’s tarps are all super impressive and while they also run a bit over a pound with lines that is completely worth it to me to have doors when I want them.
    What company is SLD's?

I generally use DD tarps being UK based. I do have a Hennessy hex. I have often used a 3*4.5m tarp which I honestly feel is too big. I now use a 2.4*3.5m DD tarp which is perfect for all conditions. I have used it in strong winds and storms and never got wet. It'd be my recommended starter tarp at £38

I started with a hennessy hex, which is sufficient for weather protection. But when I hike/camp, there is usually more people around than I would like, and the hex has no privacy. My wife has no issue with this, but i wanted more privacy.
I got the kelty 16ft tarp, and I love it. Theres a youtube video where this guy shows how to set it up quick and easy. https://youtu.be/LjpUrC7ppDY
It's a little big/heavy, but I think its worth it. I usually have one side open for access and a view.

Wow that’s awesome. It has a crazy amount of room. Have you ever had a problem with the trees being to close together to hang it?

Personally I am soooo glad that my first tarp was a cheap Amazon tarp. It's huge, way too big actually for home use even. Barely fits brtween the trees I use for hammocking. But it allows playing, learning and making mistakes and it will serve as a great sun/rain protection for the campsite next year so we can sit out in the rain or have a shady place to sit. And it wasn't too bad that it made contact with an EMT conduit while setting up/building my DIY tensahedron stand. Put a good 5" hole in it and somehow I trust it less now even with the silicone spray on it

Well that's what birthday's are for right? I think I've settled on the superfly.

SLD not only makes great tarps but also cranks out amazing underquilts and, now, topquilts, too!
