    Mother in law

So I personally have hiked for years all in the rockies I live in ohio now my girlfriend's mom is a thru hiker has done the AT but had surgery on her knees last year I have talked her into trying out a hammock (she made a bugnet deal with a home made tarp over it before) my question is I have never mentored anyone in using a hammock all my experience has been watching shug and trying stuff he does and seeing what works for me she is excited and terrified this might prove the end of her hiking she is 62 is there anything I can do to make this a more enjoyable experience she is allergic to down so I am at a lost of what to recommend we are planning on doing zaleski in April any advice would be welcome sorry for a long winded post lol I have included a pic of what she made and used before kinda of impressive to me lol and I have made a basic jungle hammock from the ultimate hang 2 for her to use and paired it with dutchware Beetle buckles for her thanks in advance for the help

Bummer about the down allergy, however there are a few vendors I know of that use synthetic insulation:

    Arrowhead Equipment: https://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/...Camping-Quilts

Cedar Ridge Outdoors: https://www.cedarridgegear.com/product-category/quilts/ (look for the UP synthetic options)

    Loco Libre Gear: https://www.locolibregear.com/gear.h...lts/c/45865323

    UGQ: https://ugqoutdoor.com/top-quilts/synergy-bandit/ (top quilts only)

    Enlightened Equipment: https://enlightenedequipment.com/revolt-apex-v2-custom/ (underquilt only)

EDIT: I've never used any of these products, so be sure to do more research and ask around for opinions.

Does "Hypo allergenic" down not cure allergy issues some people may have? I've no idea, but I always figured that was the point.

I, too, am allergic to down so I have used with synthetic Climashield. My allergies are many so I have not gambled with hypoallergenic down. I have been happy with my Arrowhead Equipment UQ. Build quality is good, reasonably priced, and quick turn around.

Climashield will not compact as well as down and it is heavier so for backpacking, it will not be ideal. The synthetic product UP is available from some of the cottage vendors, but I have no experience with that.

Hammock camping learning curve is rather long, but the effort is worth it for this 66 yo body. Read, watch videos, test at home, etc., until your MIL is comfy and deploying her set up is easy.
