Had a bad night in heavy wind recently, and analyzing afterwards what I did wrong I think the external poles were probably the wrong use for my tie-outs — if I had it to do again, I’d use them for additional lines staked to the ground. I was catching too much wind. On the upside, the inside of the tarp that kept slapping me in the face was dry.

If anyone is wondering where you can find the perfect poles to use with your panel pulls - I use these on both my WB Thunderflys - Made by COLEMAN - Replacement Tent pole kit. 4 27" poles w/leadwire and elastic shock cord. You don't even need to use the extra product. Two poles together equal the perfect length for two panel pull poles ( say that 10 times fast ) ~ model #2000008588 - I order them from Walmart for like $18.00 shipped.
Nice to have for a little extra roomy feeling especially if you’re going to spend extra time under the tarp. Also simplifies pitching and is more compact area for guy lines which I like. Easier to have and not use than the other way round. I don’t always use them but when I do I like it.
