Would it work if you ran a piece of shock cord between the pull-outs and then wrap the shock cord over a trekking pole and then run a cord to the ground and stake it?

I use them frequently with trekking poles on my Superfly ...so much better the way it opens up the tarp

I have shock cord loops on the tie outs and then just loop those over each end of a trekking pole over the head end of the hammock. Makes a ton more space and less ropes to trip over. Can also use any long enough stick you find.

I always use the pullouts on my Thunderfly with the external poles. Debating changing to internal poles on my next WB tarp but no doubt about the benefit of thr poles to create a little more space under the tarp.

Those external poles will catch the snow here in Minnesota as they create a flat spot. In winter the internal pole is much much better for shedding snow.

And in a wind, they dump that water, usually on/near your shoes you’ve placed to step into. Good idea to plan for a “spill zone” by angling the trap ridgeline - it doesn’t have to be horizontal - or porch mode pole.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Weathered many a rain shower and thunderstorm. Never had any water pooling issues with the external poles.

I can see the top being kind of flat enough to hold wet, clingy snow. But if you put so much tension on the external poles that it creates a table top or bowl bowl like surface I would back off the tesnsioning a bit!
