Blackbird XLC to ground - Poles?

    All,

I am looking to use my Blackbird XLC as a hammock and bivy on a long trip. I was wondering what type of poles/lines people were using to just put the hammock on a tarp and have it not lying flat on your face? I am motocamping so I will have one ~3 foot connection point off the ground. I will also be bringing a pole or two, so I was thinking of tying the other end of the built-in ridge line to there and using that as a make shift bivy. Was hoping others could share their set ups for taking hammocks to the ground

I would just use hiking poles or sticks from the woods.

If you are going to carry some poles, one choice I make when kayaking (and some day hikes) is the collapsible poles from REI. They come in two sizes. The smaller size - I think 6 foot max expansion - is fine. I’d use the larger/longer ones (8 ft max length) if I was using a big tarp for picnic table. So you guy out the poles with one or two lines and the tarp; then tie the bug net bungee to the poles to lift it off your face.

Here’s an early “proof of concept” using repurposed MSR poles.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
