UQ with two layer bottom hammock

If the double bubble insulation is not enough warmth in a Hennessy hammock, can you add an under quilt like the AHE Potomac to warm things up? Or does the use of the double bubble or any pad between the two bottom layers somehow preclude the use of an under quilt?

I have a double Hennessy, and when I started using an UQ I skipped the reflectix, just treat it as a normal single-layer hammock and you’ll be fine. I used a Hammock Gear 0° Incubator without any issues.

If you're gonna move to underquilts, then skip the pads. I've never tried it, but I would think it's hard to situate an underquilt underneath a pad.

It will help you it’s warmth. But, an underquilt relies on the warmth of your body to work, and if there’s a layer of insulation between you and the under quilt, then it’s not working to its full potential. Use the UQ as your primary and supplement with the pad.

I have never tried that specific combo, but I have little doubt it would work for me. I would expect it to be warmer than either one by themselves. People vary, but that is what my experiences indicate. The only possible problem might be if the fit of a stiff pad interfered with the fit of the UQ. But that seems pretty unlikely with that flexible bubble pad, which I woud think is somewhat form fitting, is that right?. But, sounds like a good thing to experiment with.

I am thinking of buying a Hennessy hammock and I will use an UQ. Trying to decide between a single and a double bottom. The double bottom would seem to provide more options but if I am set on using an UQ, maybe I would just be better off with a single bottom Hennessy. Looking at the Explorer Deluxe XL with the standard fly. I have an AHE New River UQ and an Oyhwee TQ. Probably no need to get a double bottom hammock.
