    Whoopie Sling Diagram

I recently learned how to make a whoopie sling by following instructional Youtube videos. I kept pausing the video and going back and squinting to figure out what went exactly where. It felt like a good diagram to go along with these guides would have made it clear quickly, but I couldn't find one. I wanted to share what I came up with. Does anyone else think these could be helpful?

Happy to update or correct any errors!

This diagram has been out there for years. Whoopies are a lot older than the hammock camping craze.
    Sampson Rope Whoopie Sling Guide

Your diagram is nice. The diagram for the continuous loop is one off several ways to make them. The method shown produces a locked-brummel CL, but it creates a hard point bump in the loop. I prefer the straight splice, that creates a uniformly smooth CL.

But with all things hammock there are many different ways. so HYOH

Okay yeah this diagram is pretty good. Thanks for sharing it!

Is the straight splice version where you just bury both ends? I was wondering if that would work.

“just bury” doesn’t seem exactly right. You can weave one end through the other before the bury. That isn’t the same as the “bump” method were the ends are turned back 180 degrees and buryed in their same side. In theory the “smooth” system is supposed to be pull-apart-able. But I can’t imagine a situation where something would snag/pull at the critical place on the loop. And it’s easy enough to rotation the loop to more protect that connection point.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

This is a 2 second sketch of the straight splice CL... so it is crude. But you pass one line through the other... ie. the red comes down through the green and the green goes up through the red. One tag is on the outside and one on the inside of the loop. You skip over a weave or two and bury the tails. If the tails should be long enough that they barely meet on the other side of the loop. This produces a smooth ring where the splice is very hard to find and the loop is uniformly doubled in thickness.
