    Synthetic insulation for UQ

I am in the process of making a winter UQ. Before I went “ all in” and purchased expensive fabric and down fill I thought I’d make a test version with rip stop from a big box fabric store to test my sewing and work out any design kinks. I have the baffles almost finished and rather than throw this away when it’s done I got the idea to stuff it with synthetic insulation and use it for car camping. I’m aiming for a 20 degree quilt and I have 2in baffles with a 2.5 chamber height. What kind of synthetic insulation should I look for? Everything I’m seeing is on a roll and I need it loose to stuff. Also, is there a chart someplace to tell me how much insulation to use for 20 degrees?

Thanks for the advice! I’m new to hammocking and new to the forum.

    Maybe UP insulation from Dutchware...

As to whether it will be adequate for 20°F, I haven't a clue.

Thanks for the welcome! DW website says “UP has tested to be warmer than a 600 fill power Goose Down when tested for warmth based on equal volume.” I could use one of the down fill calculators and just put in 600 fill down. It won’t be exact but it should be close enough. Thanks fir suggestion!

I use a UP top quilt and it’s killer. It would be a great choice for the project

I made a TQ a few yrs back. Primaloft 1, I think. Its very light and very warm. By far the warmest I own, unfortunately its very bulky. To big to take on motorcycle trips.
My daughter takes it for car camping and loves it.

Made my wife a 20 degree UQ using UP insulation when it first came out. Doesn't pack as small as down but it does insulate well.
