Guitar playing, moto riding photog from Detroit

    And now a hammocker.

It’s taken me a while to introduce myself because I wasn’t sure that this would be my preferred mode of camping. But now, I’m pretty sure that this is the sleep system for me.

I’ve been a tent camper since the 90’s off and on. Didn’t always have time to get out in the woods as much as I would like, but there was always that gravitation to nature. Before this year I have backpacked a few times.

Since September I’ve been out three times with my hammock and my new backpack. I can say that I really see and feel the appeal of hammock backpacking.

Since I’m not employed at the moment, I’ve had the opportunity to go off in the woods mid week and I get to pick my weather for my adventures. Unfortunately this also means getting out there by myself which is also ok.

Shug’s videos and all the info that I’ve lurked and poured over on the site here have greatly flattened my learning curve. I do thank those that have contributed to the information collective I’ve found here.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t made mistakes out on the trail with respect to hammocks, but I’ve worked through those blunders and made it back home safe.

My mistake on getting my food bag, hung PCT style stuck 10’ in the air the first night of a backpacking trip in the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness, while not hammock related, was solved with the info I’ve gleaned from here.

    Breakfast was saved that day.

If anyone is so inclined I just got back from a solo jaunt in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. My hammock setup isn’t the feature of the video, but it’s nestled in there with some pics.

While hiking I kept hearing a simple beat and chord progression going though my head. Recording it and pairing it with some of my photos helped cap off the trip with a creative outlet.

If not, that’s fine as well.
    Thanks for reading.

Nice shots! I would have expected the fall colors to be further along for this time of the year up there, but it has been pretty warm over the past month. Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks!

It was hit or miss in the northern lower last week. There were spots driving south from where I camped that were very close to peak color.

I’m thinking about hiking the Manistee River Trail next week. Hopefully there will be some color left.

    Thank you sir.

Not bad for a troll... 😉

Are you past your peak colors where you are yet?
