Superfly for year round camping in MN?

Hey yall, I'm just getting into hammock camping and I am trying to decide on a tarp. I am a college student so funds are an issue and I would like to buy one tarp for all year camping. I figured I'd need the superfly for the harsh winters here, but I am wondering if it is possible to get by with a smaller tarp without doors. I want to use this tarp for summer/fall/spring as well so It'd be a little nicer to have a smaller tarp for that, but if you think a tarp with coverage like the SF will be a necessity for winter MN camping then I will just go with that.

Superfly works good all seasons. I've used it in 40°C down to - 40°C.

Like all silnylon needs to be tightened at least once after sitting for couple hours.

    Handles snow load well.

In deep snow I dig down inside but put the bottom edges against the snow and in some cases even shovel a little snow over the edge depending on situation.

Doors close well and will give you good ventilation.

I use it more than my DCF tarp.

So yes, in my opinion this is a good all season tarp.

Also, just fold the doors back and run a piece shock cord between them if you want open doors. Weight penalty for doors is pretty low considering your desire for an all season tarp.

https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/....php?p=2034035 is an example of this type of tarp, although I don't think it's a Superfly.

Hey feller. I live in MN as well and would recommend the Superfly.
The doors are real nice to have and you can roll them back and clip them or tie them back when not needed.
I use mine in winter with an inner pole mod. Really helps shed snow and keep tarp from collapsing in. See it in action on second video below at 3:39 in.

Thanks for the replies Brady and Shug! I think I'll go with the superfly I bought a nice 0 degree top quilt and I think I'll also splurge on a nice hammock and 0 degree underquilt. There seems to be so much more that goes into winter camping it's all somewhat daunting, but I think getting a nice warm shelter is a solid first step.

You will love the Superfly. It truly is a four season fly and it's my go-to for the boundary waters. I recommend the 20D silpoly material as it will not stretch when when wet, unlike silnylon.
