Hey everyone - greetings from North Carolina! Northern part of Durham for those familiar.
I used to hammock camp about 20 years ago, and recently my two boys (7 and 13) have started to want to do this. We usually "camp" in our RV about 50 nights a year, but the boys are really excited to get out in hammocks and go explore.
We did a soft-run last weekend in our backyard, and we all made it through the night. It dipped down to 46F, which was a little chilly for us just in sleeping bags in the hammocks. We're going to do it again this weekend, and augment our sleeping systems with some sleeping/yoga pads we have. I of course want to look at better systems and underquilts, but I want to gauge how interested the boys are before investing more money.
After we get our sleep systems figured out and warm enough, we plan to try out one of the Eno River parks - looks like it's a 1 mile hike, and they leave split firewood at the primitive campsites. For $15 a night.
Eventually my kids want to take the boat out onto the lake and find one of the islands out there and hammock camp there, as well as Bear Island.
Anyway - thanks for letting me join. I'm a software developer by day, who now works remotely permanently due to Covid. The big-mega-corp I work for plans on most of us working remote indefinitely - not sure how I feel about that just yet!
