"...the height of hammock snobbery!"
Another great video Shug, it really spoke to me.

Great overview!
I've been backpacking a long time and did not at first appreciate the blizzard of options, gear and techniques involved with hammocking. Even as an experienced outdoors person it took me more than a year to get it really dialed.

The leaf and candy month!
It is spoken of but never elaborated upon. Hope new members take a gander.
Same here but I enjoy that about it. Backpacking can get insipid at times and needs to have something to keep it exhilarating. At least that is the case for me.

It's funny how "easy" things were years ago. Buy a Warbonnet hammock and tarp. Hammockgear quilts. Maybe some zing-it and dutchware. Done.
Then I got bored/addicted, hence all the buying, testing, selling, tweaking, etc. None of that was really necessary, but I lie to myself very well.
Great video, Shug! I am in 100% agreement with you about the learning curve. I have had that opinion since I started, and had to figure out how to get the HHSS to work optimally, and to understand that system. But by about the time I was figuring that out, here comes the original JRB BMBH, I think I got maybe the 6th or 10th produced, and ended up returning it because of shoulder squeeze and a few other cons and I had no UQ to insulate it with(and by then I also had a Pea Pod for my GEs, useless on the BMBH). But then, after it was gone, when I might be trying to find the "sweet spot" in one of my GEs, I got to thinking about the blissful zero calf ridge, zero side torque and knee extension, without worrying that much about the perfect RL length or hang angles, foot end height, sweet spots, etc. And got to wondering if I had been too hasty, and can you believe I got another one? And lo and behold, after a few months of playing around with that puppy, and it didn't hurt that I also got a MW4 to insulate it, that hammock ended up being at least tied for all time fav. That was like 07, and to this day I can still be perfectly happy with that hammock, especially in winter time where I find it extra easy to keep warm with my TQs and UQs. Learning curve, big time!
Which has been repeated with many different hammocks and insulation methods over these years. Thanks for being a whistle blower about the learning curve!
