Ended up throwing in a sandwich and 5 tall boys (beer) and half a dura flame logthat's 3+lbs right there

Saw Just saw 10 people outbound
    It went like this

    Omg your staying the night

    Yes I am

Lady omg do you know a massive storm is coming

    Yes that's why I came

Omg what will you sleep in the shelter?

    No I have a hammock

Omg your sleeping in a hammock during a blizzard

    Yes that's correct

Omg I hope you survive the night
    We will pray for you

It looks like you found a nice place to tuck in. Be alert for deadfall with all the wind and snow loading of branches!
I hope your Duraflame is not like the one I just burned: it looked and smelled like a stack of burning tires!
Have fun, I may try to get there for a hike (or overnight depending on the temps) on Saturday.

Have a great time... should be interesting!

Where exactly are you? I think you said no snowshoes so I hope not too far into the woods. Just based on the tree species there I'd guess somewhere in the Hogencamp/Pine Swamp area, parked at Skannatati?

ooff so true. I used a Duraflame in my hot tent stove for the first time while car camping thinking it would be an easy way to burn it in. Despite what the package says, it does not burn cleaner than wood Such a terrible smell and a ton of soot.

Well BGR must be having one heckuva good time!

We've got a solid foot—more like 14"—and it's still a-comin' very heavy! Wind steady 15-20mph, gusts much higher.

I know this isn't much for folks from true snow country but it's the most we've had in several years... last winter's total seasonal snowfall was about 6-8"

Totally. I would have spent most of this morning digging out the Corolla at the trailhead. Wind and snow still blowing in Brooklyn!

    Was a great trip
    Just got home
    Hate my pack
It's time I stop procrastinating and get something that fits my huge size
This jansport big bear 82 has served it time
Even after half the food and all the beer and duraflame used the pack still hurt me today
All in all a wonderful trip
I will lay out some of my gear that i used and what I didn't use later, if anyone is interested
Love my salomens, warm n dry whole trip20201217_071150.jpg20201217_110849.jpg20201217_123654.jpg

Sounds great! That is such a cool experience being out there in the raw elements, all snug and warm in your little capsule.

I'll be at Silvermine Lake parking tomorrow at 9 am if anyone else is up for an overnighter. People can day hike (well, snowshoe) a long-ish or short-ish loop or hike in only ~1.4mi to either Brien shelter area or Stockbridge and make it a primarily camping experience, maybe play around with new gear.

I have a pair of snowshoes and poles with snow baskets to lend if somebody is lacking.

Conditions won't be as interesting as those experienced by brutalguyracing, but I'm just tickled pink to be out on snowshoes and camping in the white world again!
