Nice that you could get out for a quickie. Our cooler weather is just around the corner... still Africa hot down here.

    Thanks for posting.
There are several views of the skyline from Harriman. From that spot it is right at 35 miles to the middle of Central Park.

I enjoyed a quick overnight on top of Stahahe High Peak last night (and still lying here swaying in a light drizzle).

A short hike up from Kanawauke Road with an easily-missed side trail will bring you topside in 1.2 miles.

That's a great spot! One of the quickest hikes in to a nice hang, and it looks as if your weather is even finer than mine was!

Nice trip and shots Bob and Jolly. Harriman is a perfect place close by with so many nice places to make camp for a night or 2.

That's an overdose of awesome camping spots and what best than a hammock to enjoy the views. So you see, Phantom, it is not only Mother Nature painting, it is a photographer looking through a lense

I'll be doing another overnighter tomorrow (Fri, 10/1) if anyone else wants to do a nice hike-n-hang.

I'm up for a hike anywhere from 8 to 18 miles, depending on ability/desires of others who might be able to join me.

I recently made another foray into my favorite local woods with the expectation that nearly all color would be gone. As it happens, and rather unexpectedly, autumn unfolded rather late this year and the colors were not nearly as good as forecast.

However, as of Nov 6-7 there was quite a bit of color remaining, and what was left got a lot more colorful after a few nights — finally! — of sub-freezing weather. Beech trees had most of the golden color, but also some maple and oak were showing some nice hues as well.

I did the very familiar walk from Silvermine Lake to Brien Shelter, AT over Black Mtn, 1779 Trail to Turkey Hill and Long Path to Stockbridge, which is a very leisurely 9.5 miles.

Just a couple hundred yards into the hike, passing Silvermine Lake:
