Friendly FYI: watch out for those tied-back doors on the outside as they can catch a gust and act like a sail and cause all kinds of rip/tear damage.

I’ve resorted to tying them back inside the tarp for this reason, and I can then also use them as clothes lines to dry stuff out

Super secret, LOL. Based on the bear deterrent in the first pic, it's one of two places.! Glad you're having fun.

Wasn't all that long ago you weren't saying such things. You've made significant progress!

My wife had some family/friends things planned for us Saturday, so it was a spur of the moment decision to do a Harriman quickie Sun-Mon despite a little rain in the forecast. MikekiM was able to day hike with me for almost the entire hike, which turned out to be a little different from what we normally do. We parked at Slivermine Lake, but rather than the usual loop that incorporates AT/LP or LP/1779 (to Turkey Hill) we took the Menomine east toward Bear Mtn. We headed over toward Dunderberg on the Menomine (yellow) trail and back on the AT over Black Mtn. Here is is a link to the caltopo map, which includes an optional route to tag Timp and West Mtn and tack on some more vertical.

The weather was great for the most part, fairly cool and dry with a welcome breeze on the exposed ledges. The climbs up and down Dunderberg (especially!) and Black Mtn were interesting and a lot of fun. Well, if you like rocks! And the views make it totally worth it! I camped near Brien Memorial Shelter, probably my favorite spot for these Sub24 hikes because it offers a quick, easy out. I was actually home this morning a few minutes before 8am!! Yesterday I got a little break in the rain shortly after arriving at Brien shelter area and was able to put up hammock and tarp without getting drenched. Then it stopped raining in time for dinner, and there was no more after that... clear this morning.

MikekiM taking in the view from near the top of Dunderberg (Cat's Elbow):

Coming down from Dunderberg... did I mention it's rocky?!

View from Black Mtn... the clouds were getting ominouser and ominouser as the day went on...

My campsite in the vicinity of Brien shelter:

Not bad... as far as I know!

We were up to our knees in thick blueberry bushes and in quite a few places up to our shoulders in mountain laurel, and I didn't find any. I had sprayed only my lower legs with deet, the fairly new 3M Ultrathon stuff.
