I went all minimalist this trip
17.3lbs with food but not water
Seems like 17 +- is about as low as I can get for a 20*+- trip
Much better then my previous pack weight
I pulled a pulk with wood upstate last weekend for only 1.4 miles and it was "fun"
    And fyi
Backpackers pantry Mango sticky rice gets a from me
    Almost fell in a creek
    Fun times today
No way I could bare boot this side
Even with the snowshoes I was sinking 8-12" in the fresh
I'm guessing that side of the park has seen heavy use and is maybe well packed down

Glad you guys are getting out!

After the long weekend at Pharaoh last week I was only able to barter a short day hike this morning. Went from Silvermine to Brien to Black Mtn and returned along the "backside" of the lake for a total of about 5 miles. Trails were really in good shape for microspikes and although I had the snowshoes the trails were so hard packed that I didn't feel too badly about not using them.

Weather is bluebird perfection today! View from Black Mtn overlooking Silvermine Lake.

That sweet spot was open and hasn't been used in some time... snow was completely undisturbed.

I was lucky that the trail was completely packed so it was like walking a regular trail... easier, even!

In the unbroken stretches of Pharaoh it was a bit of a struggle to maintain 1 mph!

    Sub 24 Overnight Harriman NY

This is the longest thread about Harriman ever haha. Between this and the Sintax video, I hope it doesn't get over loved.

This has definitely become the Harriman info repository.

Last Winter of '21 Tango in Harriman?

If anyone wants to join, I'm planning a sub 24 hike/camp tomorrow and Friday (2/25-26) to enjoy the last of the remaining snow before the white world succumbs to spring warmth. Weekend weather forecast k looks kinda crappy and the next 2 days are stellar.

I'm flexible on distance and trail head, so I'll happily entertain suggestions from anyone who wants to go. Snowshoes probably won't be required for the trails — although Microspikes are highly recommended! — but might be needed for stomping out a campsite... off-trail appeared to be fairly deep just a couple of days ago.
