Grayson Highlands State Park, 9th Annual Fall Hang, Sept 24-27

Beginning trip report thread for 9th annual Grayson Highlands fall hang. 27 total folks came and/or visited - you know who you are. Thanks for coming and sharing friendship and good times. Weather was a challenge on Thursday and Friday but sunshine and partly cloudy for the rest of the weekend. Great comradery (but no communists) and an even better food feast.

Wish I could have made it... maybe next year.

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver

And a big thanks to Shug and so many others that donated prizes and cash to the raffle for a very worthy cause!
We raised $540 for the Rugby Fire and Rescue Department!

It has already been handed to their secretary and she asked us to share their thanks!

Wow, what a blast, three hosts-thrice the fun, food & fellowship
I stayed warm and dry in hammock—But hammock was damp when I packed up.
I’m still learning, or at least making mistakes.
Gunny and Gypsy, y’all outdid yourselves—your BBQ is the best and I’ve been on several BBQ crawls at top rated restaurants in the center of BBQ country.
Thank you Hickery&Shug, Rockdawg and Slowhike. SteelPlayer I’m lucky I was in hammock after supper instead of my bed. Your chili is the bomb.

Hiker campers, sorry I wussed out, I shoulda gone with you even though I fall behind and slow down progress.
Most enjoyable to see Moms and their kids camping and thriving at Grayson.
Thank you Bob, Hickery and Major Tom for making a crackling fire and great conversation.
TwoSpeed, thank you for bringing Spitfire—she who conquers AT!

Yeah, what little time I was around her I could tell she was a "Spit Fire"!
Always quick with reply, ready to roll.

Good to spend time with you again Phantom.

Majortom, Sugar and I had a great time on our first Grayson hang! Fantastic people, food and campfire conversation. Thank you to all those who organized this event and for those who donated items for the auction. I didn't get one of those terrific Shug paintings that I was hoping for but I did get a Maple King shirt! There is always next year. Rover on the AT.

Just letting yall know this was my second time at Grayson but was my first time staying/camping overnight. Enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Thanks to all for hosting and to Slow Hike & Hickery for all our stories swapped along with Phantom around the fire.Attachment 182616 Attachment 182617 Attachment 182618Attachment 182620Attachment 182621

Hope to catch up with many at Yates and thanks to all that helped me up the hill to see the Ponies for the first time and the AT.
