Retired and ready to hammock camp

    Hello,
I just recently retired and now have time to do some hammock camping. I bought my first hammock about 8 years ago and used it back when my son was in The Boy Scouts. Due to work and life I put the hammocking on hold until now.
I noticed that there is a lot of new equipment out there for sale and I sure I will have numerous questions as I get back into setting up this. Now that the Georgia weather is turning cooler it is time to get outside.
    Have a great day

    Welcome to the forum!

The best part about not being encumbered by a 9 to 5 is camping mid week. It’s a lot easier to find good trees to hang on when the weekend campers pack up.

Have you been able to get out and hang a lot with your old hammock after retirement?

I was an ASM for a troop in Texas for a number of years In the 90s but I had never seen anyone hang a hammock. Were you able to go on camp outs with the troop?

Shug on YouTube is a great place to start, as much for his expertise as for the entertainment value. I also enjoyed the Ultimate Hang 2 book by Derek Hansen.

It can be so overwhelming at first with all the updated technology, especially when it comes to suspension, but trying the different options and figuring out what works has been one of my favorite parts of hammock camping. I am addicted and it has got me out into the woods more than I ever though imaginable when I was a ground dweller. I think I spent about 30 nights hammock camping thus far in 2020 and am always anticipating that next hang.
