For experimental purposes I used the same tarp and spindrift with a Amok insulated pad, no UQ with a MSS bag on a 12* night. Felt a little cool on the backside but was plenty warm.
I should also note that this is all done in woods behind my house where at any point I can go inside where the Tazette keeps it like Miami Beach.

Thanks for the extra details, which makes it even more interesting! If you don't mind, just 2 more questions: was that the amok winter (R value five) or the three season pad (R-value 3)? Either way, not bad! But if the three season pad, then quite spectacular results. And depending on where a person was feeling the cold, simply adding a small piece of closed cell foam should take you right on down below zero. Considering you only felt a little cool at 12F.
