    Amok Draumr

I recently used my new Amok Draumr for a trip to the BWCAW. The temps got pretty low and actually frosted over one of the nights. I woke up at least 2 times from the cold but overall had a couple of good nights sleep compared to my other hammocks. That is subjective to due to comfort of the lay. I have A Clark NX 270 that is very warm, but sometimes it's difficult to make it feel proper for sleeping. I would really like it if I could swap out the bug net on the Draumr with full fabric to help retain some more heat. Yes, I know the risk of condensation goes way up with that, but so be it. I'll take that chance.
Anybody know of a vendor that will customize my Amok? I asked them (Amok) if they would but, no.

Somewhere (possibly in the Kool Aid thread) there was a series of posts when another member had the same idea. Maybe it was a one-time situation, but I believe the Amok guys were willing to sell that person the zipper that would be needed to mate with the hammock. If you have the DIY abilities, you could use the bugnet as a template to make a solid top cover out of a different fabric, using the zipper from Amok.

So I take it you were more cold from above than below? What kind of tarp setup did you have?

If it would help, they now offer the 0°F Winterlight pad. It actually weighs a bit less than the standard 25°F pad and isn't any bulkier.

You could also just drape a blanket or something over the Amok ridgeline...even with bugnet closed. Easy fix.

iirc, amok will sell a replacement bugnet for like $20. should be simple then to have someone just sew some fabric onto that, probably even leaving a bit of a vent

Memory is fuzzy, but this might have been what I was thinking of in post #2.

Or maybe I should bite the bullet and upgrade my top quilt.
I have a -15f sleeping bag, but do not want to lug that around.
I love hanging vs ground dwelling, but my goodness does it get costly to figure this **** out sometimes.

Unrelated but how do you like the Amok Draumr I was thinking of picking one up if they come back in stock in Canada, but a little worried about the weight and size, I usually backpack. Is the comfort worth the extra lbs in your opinion?

    draumr system isn't ridiculously heavy

I backpack in sask, with the draumr.

my osprey, synmat, draumr, tarp, CDT topquilt and my stanley cook kit come in at 13 lbs. you can easily load up for a 3-4 day trip and be well under 25 lbs after all your water and food is added

draumr is ridiculously comfortable, and if you get stuck with no viable trees, it goes to ground better than any other hammock (since it's based around an air matt)

I agree with Tikker. Yes, it is heavier than some typical hammock systems, but I would rather carry a little bit extra in order to be much more comfortable. I have use my Draumr twice, and a third time is quickly approaching, but it is easily best sleep I've had while hiking and or canoeing.
I'm not sure when or where I saw this, but I heard it referred to as a "floating bed" and that definitely fits.

I second what Tikker says. The comfort and multi use far outweighs the little bit in extra weight. I live in southern AZ and there are not always trees available to hang from. With two trekking poles it is easily converted to use on the ground. You can even hang the tarp from the trekking poles.
