Hey there, I was wondering if anyone had any experience using this tarp for hammock camping, and specifically in bad weather? Thanks!

HG doesn't have 9 x 6 Traverse tarp. They have a 10 x 8 or a 9'6" x 9'6" Traverse tarp. Regardless, both are for ground camping:

A tarp that's only 10 ft. or 9.5 ft. is really not long enough for hammock camping unless you're going to buy an 8 or 9 ft. hammock (think ENO). Looks like bad coverage for bad weather in a hammock!

Thank you for that correction What are your thoughts on the diamond configuration with that tarp? I actually just got it and set it up. It looked pretty good, but its going to be a Christmas gift so I wont be able to use it right away. I was hoping someone whos used it could share their experience, but any diamond tarp experience would be great to hear. Thank you again!

A rectangle tarp pitched across a diagonal is not too big a departure from an asym hammock tarp. Except with the tarp you bought, it has tons of tie out points, which allow you to get creative with making ... not doors ... but something like a single door at your head and foot ends/sides. Check the links below for some ideas.

SilvrSurfr is correct in that obviously the less tarp coverage you have the less protected you'll be from wind and windblown rain. That doesn't mean this tarp can't or won't work for you.
Great information, thank you!

I never had any luck staying dry when I used a diamond configuration. I gave it up and went to a 11 x 10 winter tarp with doors. I haven't gotten wet in eight years!

I feel like I may be coming to the same conclusion.
I have an all season tarp that essentially can be setup as a tent or a hex as the doors fold back. I used it all summer since my lightweight tarp was on loan. Sure, it’s heavier but only by maybe 8 oz. I never noticed the extra weight or really the doors in the hex config. They did come in handy when an unexpected storm blew in and threw moisture and debri in all directions. It’s wasn’t cold, but getting out of the wind by just unclipping a door and clipping it to the opposite side ground steak took 7 seconds and offered immediate and total relief.
