How do I hammock? In central NC

Hello from Hillsborough, NC! I'm new to the site, and to the hammock. Found the site looking at ways to sleep better in a tent. Turns out, maybe don't! Hah! I've only got some lounging hammock from Amazon I got a few years ago. Hauled it out and spent an afternoon in and around it and decided that a hammock may be the way to go...

Finances, and the myriad of options keep me from jumping in right away, but window shopping is nice!

Go to Youtube and check out Shug Emery's "Hammocking for Newbs" series. Watch each episode multiple times because it's a fairly steep learning curve. Practice at home multiple times and ask questions here. Enjoy the ride!

Yes, I've watched some of Shug's videos, but not all in a row, since it's been so nice out lately! Thanks and will do!

I've been gravitating to the WBs - the Blackbird XLC... at least right now haha

By way of info, I'm 5'9", @240#, though I hope for that to change... Prolly more of a backpacking hiker (carrier ) than a chill all day camper. Though I like the idea!

Just keep having fun and practicing with the amazon hammock. Find the sweet spot. Mess with suspension angles. Throw a pad in grab your sleeping bag and sleep overnight if you can. It is a process. Enjoy the hammock quest.

Welcome to the club! like Shug says, use what you've got and get out there! You can find inexpensive tarps, too. I slept in my ENO single with a pad for years before I purchased an underquilt, then a longer hammock with integrated bug net.

Each and every night was better than being on the ground.

Should really get to a Hammock meet up and try some different styles, if they will let you with covid and figure out what you like
