If its an established camping spot, the area under tarp cover will get less rain to wash away the pish.
If several people do it, it's gonna smell.

(unless very drunk) Would you pee on the carpet beside your bed?

A fellow hammock lover I know thought he would use a container to pee in while still in his hammock at a group event. He left early that morning rather embarrassed.

Have a friend who did that and emptied it into one of his shoes. Didn't leave the trail but he couldn't wait to find a stream the next day so he could give it a thorough rinse.

I have only done it a few times. For those talking about going in their gear, that is one reason zippers on each side of the bugnet is nice. If I was asleep, wake up and have to go, I more often than not can get myself back to sleep without going. Of course, this just delays it and I am awake in another hour or two anyway.

Once, I backpacked on an unseasonably 70 degree day in February. I had to go, but my legs cramped so bad that I couldn't get up and had no choice.

    Hi

I always use a pee bottle if I am tent camping, but in a hammock I get up several times in the night, walk to the pee tree downwind and look out at the sky forest etc while relieving myself, especially a clear night with the stars out love it, if I didn't pee in the night I would miss that beautiful sky, actually enjoy getting back in my hammock then and finding that warm spot that I left 10 min ago(not warm wet spot) plus my mates fall about laughing when I stumble around lost

Love the attitude - getting up in the middle of the night is a privilege!

I generally only get up once or maybe twice, the issue I have is actually getting motivated to get out of bed. Sometimes lay there for hours to avoid getting up, certainly not ideal.

if I wake up in the night which is always I normally try and get up and force a pee out regardless, cannot lay there and hold it anymore because I will never get back to sleep lol, joys of getting bit older
