    Critique my backyard hang

I have my ridgerunner up in the back garden. Like so:

    IMG_20200916_1534382.jpg

Before I drilled an anchor point into the wall, it was attached to the tree. However I think the space was too short. It felt like the runner wasn't fully pulled out enough.

My problem now is that when I get in the runner it sinks until I'm about 6 inches off the floor. That ain't right! Nothing is slipping, the post isn't being pulled, so what gives? Just too far apart? Or is this normal?

Here are some pics and measurements.

That is definitely quite the distance there - definitely contributes to your issue! Are the straps the original WB straps? If they are nylon they will definitely stretch too much over a span like that.

Side note: The forces are so great that I worry a bit about your brick and / or your fence posts' well-being. On the bright side, only one will break!!!

The straps are Dutchware! So the distance is too much! Maybe I need to install a post a bit closer...

Go higher with your anchor points. Or add some amsteel into your suspension setup to alleviate most of that stretch. With those straps and that distance/strap geometry, you will be a ground dweller by morning.

It must be stretch on the straps. I had a similar issue if you look at my update today on my thread about a 9 m (29 ft) span - the hammock sank a foot or more using some very cheap daisy chain straps, compare to the Hennessy suspension being tied up directly. I got the cheap straps to test the concept. I may try and make some long dyneema whoppie slings myself for zero stretch.

Also people suggested some pretty good looking portable hammock stands, or DIY options, which may suit your back garden.

I wish I could go higher, that garden post at 5.25 feet is as high as I can get for one point. Maybe the best bet would be to install a 6 foot post at around the 16 foot mark. In the UK buying amsteel or hammock stands is very difficult.

That's what I would suggest, just installing a post on the one end that will be closer to tie up to. If your household is like mine, that post installation will require begging/approval from the boss lady.

The Ultimate Hang has a hammock setup calculator that may help. I think, given your site I would make a hammock stand- either search for the Turtledog stand or the 'Make your own tensahedron stand' from Tensa outdoor

You sir, are braver than me!
Maybe I’d choose to make a homemade stand, maybe a tripod on each end about 15 feet apart and reaching 8 feet above ground. With extra height, I’d put a crossbar connecting both tripods, to keep them from collapsing inwards. And finish, by staking all six poles firmly into ground, with some long sturdy rebar stakes.
Regardless, best regards to you, brave sir!
    Thanks for sharing
