    Bonus chair when you are using a pad instead of an underquilt.

    I was looking at videos about the Thermarest Pump Sack and saw that you can use it as a chair. I thought this was a really smart idea, so I tried it with my top quilt storage bag. And it works! Very comfortable and higher/lighter than my foldable camping stool.

    What do you guys think?

    Part of the rationale behind using a pump sack is that you avoid moisture laden breath entering the inflatable mattress. This keeps the insulation from becoming funky. So, why did you blow up the pad instead of pump sacking it? I'm especially attentive to this using the Exped Downmats, but also for their Synmats.

    I haven't got a pump sack yet. That's why I was researching it. They are quite expensive, but the added feature of a chair might make it worth it.

    If you are sitting on the pump sack with the pad inside it, I would be worried about poking holes in the sack. Especially if they are expensive. (I don't use a pad, so I haven't priced them)

    That Exped thing is pretty nifty...but with an $85 MSRP and a weight of 16 oz you're $40 away from a Helinox Chair Zero for about the same weight.

    The pump sacks can serve multiple uses.

    * As a pump sack
    * As a chair
    * As a dry bag for food/clothes

    And it costs around 30 euros. I'm torn between the Vaude or the Thermarest one.
    The only pro I can think of the exped chair is the added backrest. But you are still sitting flat on the ground if you can't find a rock or something.

    I have been using a thermarest chair the type you fold your mat in half and stick it a fabric sleeve with two webbing straps same since around 2000? I have never punctured a pad though I am careful where I place it.
