    Draft Collar?

Going to purchase my first top quilt soon and I have chosen the custom WB Diamondback. It will be a 20° bag for 3 season use, I don't really know too much about camping insulation since I never invested in good gear until recently. Is the optional draft collar worthwhile? are there any disadvantages to getting one aside from additional weight and cost?

More important to me is a snap closure and draw cord at the head end. The draft collar is usually part of the design - not an option. Same for that snap closure; it’s part of the design. But some “summer weight” Top Quilts don’t have one. My WildernessLogics summer quit doesn’t have one.

The head end closure allows you to pull the top quilt around your shoulders, then cinch it down to your liking. That would eliminate drafts more than any draft collar because it keeps the quilt on/over your shoulders.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

None of my top quilts have a draft collar, and I've never been cold- even in negative temps. But I would imagine that the head-end draft collar would create a full seal the quilt around your neck, and would probably trap even more body heat. If you're a really cold sleeper, you may find the draft collar to be beneficial; but I don't think it's "necessary"- or at least not necessary for everyone.

I guess I will get it, can't imagine regretting having it.
