Trying a new 1.2 MTN Darien

I have been using a WBBB XLC for a long time and decided I wanted to try something different and lighter. Dream hammocks have a good reputation, so I jumped on the new 1.2 mtn Darien in charcoal grey. I have a four night trip in the Porcupine Mountains at the end of the month that will be a good test run. Also ordered some Kevlar tree straps from Autumn Ultralight to complete the lightweight setup. The whole setup with stuff sacks should be right at 18oz.

Look forward to hearing about your setup and experience. What dimensions did you pick and why? I am headed down the Darien road as well (dark olive) and am trying a bit wider on this hammock (11x62). Should be shipped out mid October. I have been using the same kevlar straps from Autumn Ultralight you mentioned and love mine.

I went with an 11' that is 64" wide. I am coming from a hammock that is basically the same dimension and didn't want to go smaller. I am 6' and have used a 10' x 58" wide hammock in the past and didn't feel like it was as comfortable. I went with the charcoal grey because I like to keep everything different colors to avoid mistakes during packing. This can be a challenge with my wife and I doing four season hammock camping.

I was a little worried that I wouldn't like the fabric, however I like to slippery feel. It might be a placebo effect, but the extra 2-3" of width seems to allow me to lay a little flatter. I have a four night trip coming up to give it a good test run.

Same to you, maybe we will pass each other. My wife and I will be starting next Sunday and doing the Big Carp, Little Carp, Government Peak and Escarpment Trails.

I have a DIY in that fabric. I don't find it slick, but do think it has a vary crispy feel to it. Initially I was taken back and didn't think it would work for me, but it has no become my favorite winter netless.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I also have a DIY in MTN 1.2, and it's my favourite, year-round. It's light, strong, firm (for its weight), and the slick feel of it seems a bit weird at first, but in practice is totally fine.

Just figured I would give an update after four nights in the hammock. So far I would say I really like the fabric. It has minimal stretch (174lbs) and I like the feel of the material. I would say I had a slight bit of calf ridge compared to my XLC, but nothing significant. I have never had quilt hooks on a hammock before and I wasn't sure if they would help, but I think they did.

In all I think it will be my new go-to hammock for the near future.
