Hammock failure and repair on trail

I will be making a traverse of the Pecos Wilderness. I have an 11’ Robic gathered end hammock that is a couple ounces lighter than my other hammocks. It is also the least substantial. Have any of you experienced a hole, rip, tear, or complete hammock failure while on the trail? Do you carry Tenacious Tape? Will Tenacious Tape repair a major tear?

Have you seen Shug’s video where his green hammock tears almost into two pieces? Could a complete failure like that be repaired on the trail?

Duct tape is a wonderful friend.

I'm not so sure if a hammock nearly torn if half would be field repairable to the point of being useable. I think if a tear occurred in a mostly non-stress area of the hammock, like up by your shoulder or legs/feet towards the gathered end, it might be repairable with Tenacious tape (maybe/temporary) or needle & thread/dental floss, depending on the length of the tear. I'd think if you've had time on the trail in your Robic hammock & it's performed for you, it should work for your trip. If antsy about it, it might be worth a few extra ounces & less anxiety by taking a slightly heftier hammock.

Coincidentally, my son & I are heading to the Pecos in a few days for a 5-6 day trip... can't wait! I'm wrestling with gear decisions/choices too, trying to keep my pack weight down.

I always try to shake my pants cuffs to remove forest duff.
Any small sticks and twigs can be bad for your hammock

Does anyone remember his exact quote?

How about thread and Seam Seal. There is a UV activated seal seal that sets up pronto when exposed to sunlight. Stitch the rip and cover with seal seal.
