Using a Wooki on a Chameleon - too tight / stretched?

Hi all. I started out my hammock camping journey with a Warbonnet Blackbird (10’) and a Wooki. I LOVED the ease of the Wooki and no messing around with the setup.

I ended up winning a Chameleon from MAHHA two years ago and didn’t find a good way to alter my 10’ Wooki to be on my 11’ chameleon. I got a regular UQ after that and used it for about a year and a half.

I still needed a 20* UQ for my chameleon and decided to make the leap and get another Wooki. I used it for the first time a few weeks ago and I felt like it stretched WAY too much. At first the rubberband actually popped off, i put it back on. See pictures.

At the same time I was using this, my friend was in my old Blackbird /Wooki setup and there was no stretch at all.

Everything I’ve read on these forums say you are able to use a Wooki on a Chameleon. But I’m not sure I would be comfortable using this as-is. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

You may need to add a bit of shockcord tp the Wooki to lengthen it a bit to fit the Chameleon.

    From the Warbonnet website.

It is possible to use the Wooki on similarly sized non-Warbonnet hammocks as well, the elastic portion of the Wooki suspension can be lengthened slightly with a short leash of cord to make fit a longer hammock or to intentionally create an inefficient fit in warmer weather, although most people will be able to use a cold weather quilt in warmer weather by simply venting your topside insulation just like you do at home in a bed. If you do modify the Wooki suspension to fit a different hammock it should be adjusted so the band stretches 2″ (with someone laying in the hammock).

Sounds like you have a Wooki that matches your 10ft blackbird, your Chameleon is 11ft... As Shug mentioned you will require to add cord....

A loop of shock cord added onto the rubber band would work....

However make with caution to be a little generous with the shock cord lengh the size of the loop you make, then loop this around the elastic band, clip onto the hammock suspension.

Then simply sit in the hammock and place your hand between Wooki and hammock whilst sitting in it, the aim is to have a close but loose fit Wooki.

From here you can then make the necessary reductions, by undoing the knot and retightening shortening the shock cord loop as you go, to eventually find the adequate snug fit.

I don't have a Wooki that matches my blackbird... I specifically bought a new wooki to fit a Blackbird XL (or in my case, a chameleon)... it is an 11ft Wooki that I have.

Ok so I'll put some shock cord onto the elastic band on one side and the carabiner on the other, then clip the carabiner to the hammock suspension.

    Thanks all!

    Heavy...lol.

In a custom version it’s as light or lighter than most full-length underquilts. Folks need to peak out from under their brand bubble and embrace objectivity.
