I think both ways have there uses, and no I dont worry about guy lines, you could unclip them from side pullouts if you wanted to and keep them separate,i dont always use them as I have centre pole mod on my 11ft four season tarp with doors, but never seem to have any problems, especially if you use zing it for guys, then seems pretty easy to control tangles with that stuff, or just figure eight them up before packing away

This is exactly what I do. I keep the cord with mitten hooks for side pullouts in my ridgeline organizer until needed and have short shock cord loops attached to the pullouts that can be used for a door tieback or external poles as well. I occasionally use the stick method if I don't have my internal center pole. My trekking poles are most often used for porch mode on the opposite side.

I wonder what the strengths and weaknesses of both set-ups are.
I usually bring a smaller tarp I made. Need no tie out. Use my Superfly in winter but use an inner pole mod. I carry some extra cordage in my tarp sack and use it if winds are high blowing my tarp in if I tote a tarp with tie outs. I hank it up and roll it up with tarp and snakeskins if-so. Never been an issue.

That was my issue I didn't have mitten hooks. i had no way of unclipping them. I found hanking it up to be a pain every time but unclipping them and only clipping them in when you need them sounds great to me.

I just find hanking up all my guy lines including the long ones for tarp side-pulls and then making sure those all get in my snakeskins without tangling with each other to be a pain. I am using the Superfly all season because I use a RR and need a bigger tarp. Do you hank by figure eighting and then by doing a half hitch?
