I'm thinking this could have been staged. Looking to bump up those numbers. Clickety click click click.

    But I could be wrong.

I had the same vibe, but didn't want to assume. However looking at the tree and how weak it after the fact made me wonder. He was very tentative sitting down and that tree was very obviously dead.

I also would not be surprised if they had sawed the tree and put a hinge such that the tree just missed his tarp.

Either way it serves as a wake-up call to watch out.

Is it just me being cynical but the way he was slowly sitting down and watching, it looked staged.

I would like to think that he knew that the tree was dead and did his best to push it over before tying his hammock to it. We all know that the lateral forces that hammock induces when we sit/lay in them. This may be the reason for his looking left and right. He knew the tree was dead, but couldn't move it, but wanted to slowly add weight incase there was a failure.

Because nobody does anything stupid for the 'Gram.

Almost all evergreens around this part of the world. Doesn't mean they are totally sound, but if they are green they are alive
One of my jobs toward the end of my career before I retired was campground hazard tree inspections. Every tree in the campgrounds that posed a potential threat needed to be mapped and assessed for condition. This all started following some fatalities at FS campgrounds back east.

That would be pretty stupid to stage this and not have a backup plan. I do believe he had a last second thought about tying off to a really dead tree

I do not believe it was staged, he honestly looks like his heart is pounding in the end. I'm just saying with the internet, I would not be surprised if we found out it was staged.

I had no problem understanding you and really appreciate the effort you made to make a video for us newbies. It was very helpful since I have seen those mushroom looking things growing on trees but never realized that it meant the wood was already dead.
