66....Love my hammocks and gear....all 26 stoves Living in Plumas County, CA. you can hammock almost anywhere. Echo Lake, Silver Lake, Butt lake, and of course Lake Almanor. Only issue is hiking more than 2 miles in. Knee issue. But I still try. Still setup on my deck every winter with my dog with me.

Interesting - this thread is over 10 years old, I wonder how the 50-somethings are doing now that they're 60-somethings. 65 here.

Love my hammock - great sleep, and no need to crawl around in the dirt. I guess the crawling wasn't so bad, but the getting up is tougher than it used to be.

Agreed! Also, being out of the dirt = less allergies. Will be 67 in a month...

I'm one of the Old Guys. I'm 74, but still active. I'm not up to speed lately, TKR, really slowed me down.
    BUT...
I use an exercise bike, and I'm doing short hikes, but I'm still going slower that everyone else.
Thing is I'm one of those guys who refuse to quit, so I expect to be faster by this years Deer season. I still hunt and fish.

I'm turning 53 this year though I refuse to admit it to myself.

And I'm going to be doing my thru hike of the AT next March.

If its true what they say, "It ain't the age, it's the mileage" - then I'm hosed either way.

But I'm having fun doing it.

    63. With HF members help, off the ground and I keep getting lighter. Which means more trips and steps on the trail.

After all the years of scrambling around in the dirt (in a tent), at 51 it makes it feel so much more inviting to head into the bush knowing it will feel so much cleaner and more elegant while in the hammock. The little things add up: less crawling around, less stooping, easier (little or no bending) setup. Especially after walking/hiking and carrying that load. The hammock just feels like "less work" to me.

I turned the magical(?) 50 this past August. Hammocks and hammock camping have been a game changer for me. Like many others, I was not kind to myself when I was younger. Things feel better in the morning after a good night in the hammock.

    I'm 51 now

I remember this thread from a long time ago. It was for the "old guys."

Now I'm one of the old guys.

I feel a lot better hanging than on the ground with the exception of very cold (zero and below) weather.

My back appreciates it, and I sleep better.
