    Hello from Sweden

Hello from Sweden. Actually I’m native British but been living in Sweden for 12 years. Been researching hammocks as it looks like a fun and different way to enjoy the outdoors. My girlfriend and I like to hike, typically up to one week in Sweden or Norway, and have a pretty lightweight tent setup (Tarptent).

Still not sure when we’d use hammocks as it appears difficult to get a lighter/smaller setup than a tent on longer hikes. And the time of year is a consideration as mosquitos can be quite horrific in summer in the north of Sweden (we both seem to attract them) and a tent at least provides a space you can escape together. Perhaps we would use hammocks for day or long weekend hikes/trips closer to home as there are beautiful places to go and hang everywhere in Sweden.

I’m eyeing the Dutch chameleons and the double dutch bug net to give that similar feeling of being together. And the flexibility to use separately.

Unfortunately, now seems like the worst time to buy with lead times etc, so to get going I bought a second hand HH Deep Jungle. Maiden hang in my apartment last night (apart from one other test night outside last week in a borrowed HH Expedition). I intend to use this to learn on, maybe change out the suspension, play with knots, make some whoopie slings etc.

Anyway, I’ve already learned lots from the forum! Thank you!

Don't forget your insulation top & bottom....& hanging in the wilderness is highly addictive. Good luck.

    Welcome to the forum, Themasterpiece.

Thank you. I’ve got the heat reflecting bubble pad that goes between the hammock layers. I’m going try some practice hangs in the yard as I’m intrigued to know how cold I can use it down to. I also have a thermarest inflatable pad I can use. The longer term aim is a proper UQ. Sleeping bag will have to do for now for top insulation and that’s good as I know how cold I take that in tent as a comparison.

That hammock will be much more comfortable than the couch-sofa-davenport-futon-whateveritis behind it. Enjoy!

Yep, it’s a sofa bed which is the second bed in my tiny apartment. Not a bad one actually. But nice to have the hammock option
