Cool Did my first ever hang over in the courtyard of our complex, I fell -.-

    Hey,

So I received my hammock in the mail and I went and set it up after watching 1000 videos haha. I fell on my back twice so my photo I am a bit worried about falling again haha. How close was my hang to where it was supposed to be angle wise? I still have to review the videos and see how close I got (did it from memory). I also was not as good as I thought at tieing becket hitches haha But over time I will get better!

A way to reduce odds of falling when you are getting in your hammock:
Use a fixed length amsteel hammock ridgeline.
You can larkshead hammock ridgeline to both ends of hammock, larkshead around continuous loops.
Place a sheet, topquilt or sweatshirt inside hammock, to hold it open, and to help you land in hammock rather than underquilt.
    Turn your back to hammock
Grab amsteel hammock ridgeline in one hand.
Place other hand inside hammock right next to where you will sit.
Carefully lower yourself down into hammock into a sitting position.
    Your feet still on ground.
Now as you lay back, spin so that you are laying lengthwise in your hammock.
Adjust yourself so that you are about where you want to be; all the while never letting go of amsteel hammock ridgeline.
Now you can let go of amsteel hammock ridgeline and make any minor final adjustments of your position in your hammock.

Don’t ask me how I know.
    Phantom falling to ground, twice.
The sudden jolt to my cranium raised my IQ ten points

    My YouTube videos David Hughes

Somewhere in there I demonstrate a Carolina Becket
If you want, skip the larkshead with continuous loop around strap.
Larkshead makes it more secure but is not needed.
I show how to tie a slipknot in bunny rabbit ear.
Slipknot is tied in slipped bight as soon as it exits becket hitch.
This slipknot helps your becket hitch to not slip!
It is almost impossible for slipknot to get pulled through your becket hitch.
    It’s going nowhere!

Two common fails that cause your becket hitch to let you down to ground.
Failure to hand tighten becket hitch before loading with body weight.
Failure to tie becket hitch correctly. Most commonly by pulling strap through continuous loop and instead of finishing around continuous loop (two strands), finishing around tree strap (one strand) with what amounts to a slipped half hitch. A slipped half hitch will slip if you look at it sideways.

But, if you messed up and tied a slipped half hitch around tree strap instead of correct becket hitch...
Even if you messed up...if you have tied a slipknot in bunny rabbit ear about an inch from exit. This won’t slip any more than one inch. It will keep you off the ground all night.
Possibly in morning you will have to work to get it untied.

If you have a knot that is jammed. You can take this usually rounded shaped knot and stomp on it once or twice.
The knot will go from from spherical shaped to a flattened pancake shape (a little higher in middle)
Now the rope will have had to travel farther through the knot and is by definition—looser—loose enough to easily untie with fingers.
