My wonderful wife got me a sewing machine for my birthday a few yrs back. I make the tree straps in different lengths depending on where I'm going. I've also made a tarp and a bunch of hammocks.
Now I try to have short woopies and long straps. Double wrapping the tree just gets more sap on the strap, so in Colorado and the mountain west i find about 8' usually works well. Last yr I started taking a pole for one end. Now I only need one tree and distance isn't an issue since I put the pole where I want it. I can also orient it wherever I want based on the wind.

uggh, i don't know how i missed your reply, apologies.

it's a bit late, but for whatever it is worth, the 3mm liros d-pro is exactly what i use, and i think it's very nice and like it, though with some "notes"; i described in more detail here (including bury length according to my testing and so on): https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...iros-kanirope)

hope it helps save some time, but in short: it's great, i use it and like it (for both ucr/whoopie slings and softshackles and, well what not). splicing does get addictive though, or so i heard, so beware.
