Why doesn't UHMWPE and SpiderWeb test well with Cinch Buckles or other buckle style hardware?

Is anyone using UHMWPE or Spider Web straps with ring buckles? I see a note on Dutch's site that his UHMWPE and Spider Web straps don't test well with buckle type hardware. Wondering what the issue is. Is it simply that it slips? If so, then wouldn't the usual safety knot suffice?

Slippage but a safety knot would work. Dutch has to put this up due to the litigious nature of the day.

It's very significantly thinner than polyester webbing and more slippery on top of that. I would think aside from certain slippage it would also age the straps prematurely each time they slip. I haven't tried it but suspect it would hold with a bite pulled against the buckles but at that point you may as well eliminate the buckle because you're essentially using a becket hitch with extra steps.

The straps are impossibly thin and slick and appear less resistant to being sliced from metal edges than other materials. I don't even like using my sewn-in dutch clips with spider 1.5 and have switched to a soft connection after slicing a strap when I wrapped it around a brand new galvanized 4" square tubing shed roof support. As my weight was added to the hammock the strap slid and centered on the relatively slick tubing causing the angle to increase on the clip, slice, and I hit the ground. Luckily the ground was smooth, my back was flat and it just knocked the wind out of me for a second but my trust in the system was gone. Metal and UHMWPE strapping do not mix well. Ed: a word and to say that otherwise I love my spider 1.5 straps and just bought a second be pair w/o metal clips.

I know someone who has gone back to the black and white Spider Poly after trying most of the lighter weight options because it holds a becket hitch and rolls up pretty quick in the morning without having to smooth it out.

I use the time tested marlin spike hitch without fail every time using the UHMWPE straps. I'd never use it with hardware due to potential slippage.
