I've been labeling stuff for about 3 decades, soon to be 3 years with hammock stuff. Silver color Sharpies are indeed great for the job.

Five Basic Principles of Going Lighter (not me... the great Cam Honan of OZ) Instagram (me!)
“To equip a pedestrian with shelter, bedding, utensils, food, and other necessities, in a pack so light and small that he can carry it without overstrain, is really a fine art.” ~ Horace Kephart, 1906
Another silver sharpie user here. Though my handwriting looks 10x worse than the pics here.
I'll admit, I'm too vain to slop handwriting all over my nice gear. So I just abbreviate and use a silver sharpie on the cord locks (TF = Thunderfly, SF = Superfly, 1.6 SL = 1.6 single layer hammock, 1.1 DL = 1.1 double layer hammock, etc)
I have been using silver sharpies for many years and label all my gear that gets stored in a nylon bag. Makes it easy to know what is in the bag and if the bag gets misplaced and later found I know what piece of gear it goes with. Started doing it after I took 2 TQs on an overnight.
I am still 18 but with 49 years of experience !
