    Question Suspension Questions

I'm fairly new to hammock camping. I've gotten a couple hangs under my belt. I'll be posting full details of my setup in another thread later.

I've decided that I want to tweak my suspension system a little to start.

I want to change the thickish cumbersome rope my gathered end hammock came with. The channel is 1.5 inches wide/thick. Hammock material is that silky parachute material and is a double/2 person

I've thought about 550 cord or something else.

    Here's what I'm starting with. I'm just over 300lbs

    My questions are:

What material for the straps do you recommend?

    What company/brand do you recommend?

    How long should it be?

    Thanks.

    Suspension Questions

It is very common to use continuous loops on the gathered end of the hammock. Here is an option: dutchwaregear.

You can look at dogbones as well.

Thanks, while what's there works, there's massive room for improvement.

    I'll check out your suggestions.

Here are some setups from Dutchware.

    https://dutchwaregear.com/product-ca...e-suspensions/

Or a setup from Superior Hammocks. this one is so popular right now its sold out. with this setup you would still want a pair of continuous loops, one for each end.

Right now I'm focused on the gathered end of the hammock. Trying to upgrade there as my daisy chain tree straps work fine for me for now.

Thanks, I just found out I've been subscribed to you channel for a while now and forgot. I don't go on YouTube that much lol... But I'm planning on watching a bunch of your videos soon.

Sounds like you just need some continuous loops to replace the rope and a load bearing biner.

Use amsteel continuous loops larksheaded through your end channels or even larksheaded around end of hammock, if you have a gathered ball on each end.
Use 7/64 or 1/8 amsteel for your continuous loops. These loops can be purchased from Dutch along with hammock rated carabiners and some tree straps.
You can splice your own amsteel. But maybe best to buy professionally spliced amsteel at least at first.
Watch you some Shug videos and others too.
And get to a few local hangs to get a crash course in hammockology!

Yes, and with so many options out there, I don't know exactly what to look at for the specific application.

I've seen many terms used for various parts of the suspension, looked them up but couldn't figure out what or were their use was specifically.

As for tree straps, that's pretty self explanatory and it's just a matter of figuring out what setup and hardware I want to use later. For now though my Walmart daisy chain works great for me.
