Aloha,
First time posting. My family went hammock camping for the first time a few weeks ago. I had picked up a REI quarterdome air hammock when they were on clearance. Long story short- now I need a second bridge hammock. Since they are on clearance and most of the other cottage vendors are sold out, I have been searching the DIY forums regarding bridge hammocks.
I see that all other DIY bridge hammocks have the webbing (or amsteel channel) going along the edge of the hammock parabola whereas the REI quarterdome has it going down into the middle of the fabric in a sort of check-mark pattern (see pic). Does any one know how the physics of this webbing pattern works? I assume it mimics the forces of the parabola. It is easy to sit on the edge of it, where as it seems like some find it uncomfortable to sit on the edge of bridges with the webbing on the edge. Has anyone made a DIY version of this hammock?
Thanks.
