    Hi from Toronto

    Hi Guys,

Not new to camping (car and back country), or hammock camping, but I have done neither since I moved to Toronto from Britain a couple of years a go.

I have a Hennessy Jungle Expedition on the way, with the 25% off it seemed like a straight forward way to get a complete shelter.

Camp sites here seem quite different from Britain, where it is not unusual for farmers to set aside space for camping, I am not sure where to start particularly. Browsing yesterday I see you go to Valens which looks good and not too far. I am surprised there don't seem to be less formal set ups though.

Apart from local knowledge I am also lacking people to camp with, but it looks like there are quite frequent meet ups and so on, so hopefully I can get involved!

    Hello from Mississauga,

The Valens hangs are a great place to start. Great people, great food, easy camping. The EGL group does lots of different trips all around Ontario, lots of options for difference levels of camping.

Algonquin is probably my favorite as it’s not too far of a drive and absolutely beautiful. Just keep your eye on the EGL forum and there’s lots of opportunities to hang.

Thanks for the welcome, I will keep an eye on that thread.

Just putting together the basics again so I can hopefully get out for a night quite soon.

    hello there and welcome Reijo!!
Kinda quiet on the boards with all of the stuff going on and limits imposed on things. Southern Ontario is brutal to find 'wild' kinda camping of any sort - even the conservation areas and campground paths are well beaten. North of Barrie things start to open up a bit.

Hey guys, welcome to the Forums.

As Mr.Hammockcamper and Niagara mentioned, the EGL is pretty active group that regularly heads out for canoeing, winter-camping and car camping hangs, although Covid-19 has put a damper on much of the 2020 season.

Generally we`ll have an early spring and a mid-autumn canoe trip, a late fall and early winter car camping hang/bbq glutten-fest and a winter camping hang each season with a smattering of hangs in between.

If you want to keep informed of upcoming events, you can subscribe to our notification thread (see my signature) and set it for email alerts. There`s no discussion on that thread, just one post per hang to get the ball rolling. If you're interested, you can read about some of our exploits in the `Trip Report` section or you can find quite a few of them under this search.

Everyone`s welcome. Hope to see you out there.
