Amazing how quickly SO's hammock setup improves when I start carrying her gear

My partner had knee surgery in February (ACL/LCL/Meniscus) and has been gradually getting back into activities over the past few months. She finally received the thumbs-up for light backpacking with the caveat of nothing too steep and not too much weight, so naturally I'm carrying most of her gear.

I couldn't believe how much her hammock/straps/tarp weighed (ENO double, ENO Atlas, ProFly) and how much volume it took up. I lightened my straps a bit (went from spider/poly to spider web), passed my spider/poly straps down to her, and got her a sweet new hammock. Her hammock and straps went from 2lbs to 1lb -- 50% weight reduction, and quite smaller in the pack as well. Not to mention far more comfortable (ridgeline and better cut) and easier to adjust (beetle buckle and dutch clip vs. loop/carabiner attachment at the hammock and sewn loop at the tree).

It's amazing what $100 will do for you at Dutchware. Can't wait to get out and try some new gear this weekend.

    Wow, that's nasty! Skiing injury?

There are very light hammock setups weighing less than a pound, and combined with a well-thought-out UL kit can keep total pack weight to a bare minimum. Sounds like that will be a long-term requirement for her.
