McNeil Tract of the Green Swamp, north of Lakeland, on the left hand side of 471 just north of Colt Creek State Park, north of Lakeland off of US98. Starting around noon Thursday Feb 4-7th, you should find someone there!

I'm new to Hammocking and looking for people in south Florida to explore and learn. Is there any parks in South Florida for hammocking? Anyone in this neck of Florida interested in joining up for some exploration trips?

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. We don't get started until around Veterans Day. There are a few from down south that join us here in Central Florida. We will be posting up some trips as the season nears.

Thank you @olddog. I used to mostly live in Orlando and have spent many of nights with my telescopes in Ocala and down at Lakeland but I am stuck in Miami for now. It is the off season for camping but hope to toughen up a bit near Okeechobee or the Everglades to prepare for a true Jungle excursion in Central America next year. I am hoping to meet other Florida Hammockers soon. :-)

I grew up in Florida and have been here all my life. I can't recommend a place, but I can recommend a time: about five days in January!
I've grown so sick of the heat, humidity, mosquitoes, violent daily thunderstorms, mile after mile of crotch-deep water in the hiking trails, that the only time you'll find me out of my air-conditioned mancave is those five aforementioned days in January!

The hot, humid weather does suck.. But I'm preparing for a trip to the jungles in Central America. Hopefully this harsh environment will get me prepared.

I know this thread is old but it took me a while yo normalize my life enough to get out camping. I was able to check out the gator hole campsite. It’s a great site, the only thing I didn’t like was you can still hear road noise from 471. Has anyone camped at concession stand or high bluff? I’m curious if it’s any quieter than gator hole?

The road noise on 471 doesn't seem that bad at night to me but then my wife says I'm deaf. Concession the couple of times we passed it had very few hanging spots and we never made it thru to High Bluff.

There is a hang scheduled for New Years at Hidden Pond in Ocala off the Florida Trail if anyone is looking for a hang in Central Florida.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
