    Springfield MO area

Hi all, i have a question for anyone ine the springfield MO area.
I plan to bring my teenage son there this weekend on a short trip. We’re trying to find a decent campground to camp in Friday night. I’m considering bringing a couple of stands and going to the KOA.
Is there anyone that might have a better suggestion?

Depends on how CLOSE to Springfield you have to be... Orleans Trail (Loop D) Campground in Stockton has some nice hanging spots, but that’s an hour from Springfield. I live down here (30 minutes North of Springfield), but I’ve never headed towards Springfield to do any hammock CAMPING. As I recall, Springfield put an ordinance into effect last year prohibiting hammock hanging on public property. Folks (myself included) used to do a lot of day hanging at the large, beautiful, heavily treed Nathaniel Green Park in Springfield, but that is no longer allowed.

Also, the crime rate is very high per capita in Springfield, itself. I’d recommend giving Springfield at least a 30 minute berth in any direction for overnight camping. (But maybe I’ve just heard one too many horror stories from friends in the police department in Springfield.)

I think we’re leaning towards the James River area, thanks for all the insight!

Dublinlin: This is bad news. See my thread on Ban on Hammocks. Just a couple of days ago I went out to Greensfelder Park(St. Louis County) and read a book while in my hammock. It would be a tragedy if I could no longer do that. This shite is getting out of hand. Check out my thread and feel free to comment.
