I’ve always thought about coming down to one of these hangs, but circumstances never work in my favor. We in this very odd year the stars seem to be lining up for me. My son is heading to the Great Smokey Mountaing for a seven month stint and reports in on the 25th. Now the hang is actually on my way back home and I’m not working weekends anymore. Now to work out the details and convince my wife why I am going on a hang two weekends in a row (MAHHA).

Well I’ll be darned. Looks like we well spend a couple days down at GSMNP Then my wife will come with me to the hang. I’ve been going on various hangs for over 9 years with my kids, but she has never come to one. I have been hosting the NOVA Hang for 6 years, she has never come. Finally!

It's time to talk about food safety for the hang. Hand sanitizers will be on site for use by all. I note that some of the larger hangs are trying to minimize covid(China) virus impacts by limiting the group meals to pre-packaged store bought food, i.e., no home-made stuff for the group meals. Additionally, all plates, cups, serving tools, etc. are one-time disposal use items. Group meal preparers will use masks and gloves. Food prep areas for group meals should be off-limits except for those folks doing the cooking. These concepts do not apply to your individual or family meals. Someone is bringing farm grown eggs, which I think is okay since they will be cooked and gloves can be changed before moving to another item of food prep.

Any suggestions, pro or con, are welcome

This post is not intended to restrict anyone's freedom to associate or enjoy the hang.. We just need to be careful we are not causing virus problems for anyone at the hang or family/friends at home later on.

    Please share your thoughts.
With out getting into debates about the various degrees of precautions people take, maybe a little about what you feel OK with.

As far as masks, Hickery is very much into taking precautions but he says if people want to wear a mask, wear one, if not, that's fine too.
I'm not much on wearing a mask (I have to at work) but I try to respect those that do by wearing one in close quarters or keeping some distance.

One thing I mentioned earlier was having a few tables somewhat sitting out from the others... like stations for cooking or dish/ hand washing, drink station, paper plate/ bowl, utensils, etc.
I've thought about that in years past, just so people can move about more comfortably to get what they need.

    Thoughts?

I agree with Hickory on the mask wearing and carry one in case I have to enter an establishment that requires it.

I like the idea of spaced out tables as well. I have a couple water storage jugs that can be used at a warsh station if needed.
