    Ideas for rain water collection

I’m after ideas for collecting rain water from my warbonnet superfly.
I have seen Hennessy have a funnel that screws onto most plastic water bottles and somehow attaches to the tarp corners but I may not receive it in time for my backpacking trip. The postage $ to Australia would probably make it not worth while anyways.
    Any DIY ideas?
    Cheers

Tie a string to the corner of your tarp and let it dangle. Pitch tarp so rainwater runs toward that corner. Water will run down the sting and you can collect in cook pot or bottle.

Would water off a treated tarp be safe to drink? Long chain carbon molecules are nasty stuff.

I have 3 tie-outs along the long side of my tarp. You have 2 on the outer corners of your Superfly. Add a DIY centre tieout.

I just raise the 2 outer/corner tie-outs, leaving the middle one low, making a valley.

Flows like a small waterfall into my cookpot or sea2summit collapsible kitchen sink(5litre)

You can add a diy temporary tieout by using something soft or rounded, my wifes hair tie with a bead springs to mind, just wrap a extra cord around the bead & stake it out.

Our Aussie hardware stores have tarp clips/clamps, but from the images they look like they are made for canvas & may damage our lightweight tarp material.

Yeah that looks the part. Would be handy to have a way to attach directly to the tarp instead of having 3 extra lines to worry about.
Or the string down to a pot will also do. Cheers

Hennessey makes some funnel things with built-in screens that hang from the tie-outs on your tarp and screw onto the top of a standard water bottle to collect rain water, if you don't feel like making something.
Oooh, shiney! What does THIS button do?

That's a great video; he explains and shows everything simply and clearly.

It's a slightly complicated system, but if you're serious about collecting lots of water it looks very effective.
