    Great trip!

It's hard to get away from the sounds of civilization... about 2 weeks ago I was in the Catskills, camping between Cornell and Slide Mountains, and it was the first time in ages that I have not heard road noise during the night. I almost overlooked that fact until I heard a commercial jet fly over around 6:30 a.m. the following morning while having my coffee.

I like the saying "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear". For the most part that's true i think

Interesting tarp design! I don't thing I've ever seen one wider in the middle (where your butt is the lowest!). Is that a commercial tarp or DYI?

Thanks for posting! (sounds like a wonderful trip--just my style!) Great pictures!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

FuzzyJew, cmoulder, mcimes & stevebo...thanks for taking a look.
Now I know the spur to the Unamed peak is doable it's just a matter of time before I return for the view from the summit...it lies at the base of a much larger peak which should light up with the sunrise if my hunch is right. Curious minds with a camera in hand need to know.

Clisbyclark.... it's a minimal DIY design tarp used with a Under Cover/UQprotector. I didn't want that fully enclosed tent feeling, I like to see what's going on outside, whether it's possums in the pack, rains falling like a waterfall, gusts bending the canopy above etc etc.
Haven't been wet yet & it hasn't been torn apart by vicious summit winds, so the tough little unit is doing it's job.

Dude, I just looked at your web page----very impressive! Im always playing around with food ideas-----what kind of cooking pan is that? (the square /rectangel shaped one) Also, is that a Trangia stove? so many possibilities ! Thanks!

Variety is the spice of life, stevebo.

I had to check out my website myself...
The rectangular pot is a Trangia tr210 messtin, the smaller version.
Trangia looking stove is a zelph concoction.(zelph bottom, innards & mesh mated to a Trangia simmer lid).

Thanks Ofuros! (you have set new standards for back country cousine!) I thought the trail yogurt was especially clever---I will definitely be trying that!
