I believe I used a single strand from a cat5 cable to do some 1.3mm UHMWPE cord. I wouldn't say it's a great choice but it worked and I happened to have it literally lying around. I do like some plastic yarn needles for most of my splicing work.

I use a 5" weaving needle from most craft stores. https://www.amazon.com/Susan-Bates-1.../dp/B000Y3DA5U

To widen the hole I use small knitting needles - bought as a pack of plenty at Joanns.
To pull through, I use the fids I got from DutchWare or a wire I picked up for free from a music store. It was scrape guitar string. It’s a long narrow loop (oval) and I bound and taped the two ends to make a handle of sorts for pulling.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Thanks for sharing your method.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for your reply. I'll try the canvas needle.
Thanks for the advice.
These look pretty interesting. I'll check them out. I have some Amazon rewards to use.
Thanks for sharing. I've had some successes using the wire method. Your suggestion about widening the path with the knitting needles sounds good.
Thanks for your reply. I totally get it about the eyesight. I'm 63. I'm due for a new pair of spec's.
